About Us
The Constitution of India lays responsibility on the state and local authorities as well as the citizens of this country to protect and improve its natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife, and to have compassion for all living creatures. In discharge of such constitutional, and statutory functions, the Pune District SPCA has been established as per The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Establishment and Regulation of Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Rules, 2001.
For an effective implementation of the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, the Pune District SPCA works towards facilitating coordination between Governmental bodies, the Maharashtra Animal Welfare Board, Local Authorities and public citizens to promote compassion, humane treatment of animals and enhancing the human-animal bond through education, advocacy and implementation of laws to prevent cruelty towards animals.
